I believe we can overcome the challenges facing our state by advancing three core principles: respect, empower, and include.
Minnesotans are tired of over-the-top rhetoric. Our lawmakers seem more concerned about scoring political points than solving problems. I will bring a fresh perspective to the capitol–one that encourages respectful, civil debate about the issues facing Minnesotans.
It’s clear that special interest money influences our public policy to a far greater extent than ordinary people. This is unacceptable. In order to move forward, our government must do a better job of reaching out to ALL communities. The challenges facing our state do not affect only a few, they affect us all. With a more inclusive approach, we can ensure that everyone’s voice is heard–regardless of age, income, race, religion, nationality, sexual orientation or educational background.
When name-calling and special interest money prevail, it’s no wonder people become cynical about our political process. People feel like their voice doesn’t count and this must change. Every Minnesotan can contribute their time and talents towards advancing causes they hold dear–whether it be creating a better business climate, reducing skyrocketing tuition costs, increasing access to affordable health care, or making sure we have a progressive tax code. As a member of the Minnesota Legislature, I will continue organizing our communities around common values as I have for the past several years. Together, we can begin a new era of participation and engagement where we organize communities to stand up to the special interests that have dominated our public policy for so long.
Our state faces many challenges, but if we come together as fellow Minnesotans, I’m confident that we can work together to strengthen our communities and ensure a better life for all by adhering to three simple words: respect, empower, and include.
I look forward to talking with you over the coming months as I explore the opportunity to bring new representation to the great people of our district in the Minnesota Legislature.
